BIRTH STORIES
Kelley & Abby, December 2, 2002

Abigail (Abby) Rose arrived December 2, 2002 at 4:58 am. She weighed 8lbs and 3oz. and was 19 1/4 inches long. Here's the story:

I began leaking this clear fluid Sunday, November 24th, however it would gush and then stop. So bright and early Monday morning I called the doctor. They told me to come on in and they would check me and to bring my bags. So I arrived at the doctor's office only my doctor was not there. Another doctor checked and said it was not amniotic fluid but probably my mucus plug.

Tuesday November 26th I arrive at the doctor's office for my scheduled appointment. She says that I am 3 1/2 centimeters dilated and 80% effaced and the clear liquid is probably my mucus plug since she can still feel the membrane. But something is definately happening.

Wednesday November 27th all the in-laws arrive for Thanksgiving fully expecting a baby before they leave. Saturday November 30th is my due date.

Thursday through Sunday still leaking clear fluid but no contractions. My in-laws get on a plane at 7:00 pm Sunday to fly back to Missouri.

Fred and I go to Walmart and then have leftovers at my parents, arriving home around 9:45 pm. I feel like a have gas and need to go the bathroom. When I get to the bathroom there is bright red blood, so we gather our stuff and head for the hospital. We arrive at the hospital at around 10:30 pm. They of course want to know if I am having contractions. I say no. I get hooked up to the monitors. The nurse is staring intently at the monitor so I ask if I am having contractions. She replies "Yes honey can't you feel them?" About twenty minutes later I begin to feel them. They are about a minute apart and lasting 2 minutes. The nurse gives me some Stadol. They won't let me get up and walk around unless I need to go to the bathroom. So I pretend to go about five times. Then they make me stay in bed. So I spent most of the contractions sitting Indian style in the bed with Fred rubbing my lower back like crazy. Poor guy! I wouldn't let him move. Doctor arrives to check me and I am at 7 cm. I decide not to get the epidural for fear that it will slow things down.

I start pushing around 3 am Monday morning. Abby is born at 4:58 am to the theme from "A Chorus Line" --- one singular sensation!

"One smile and suddenly nobody else...will...do...!"
