Linda & Staige, May 16, 2003

| Staige arrived in the early morning hours of May 16, during the lunar eclipse! Linda's labor was extremely smooth. She dilated to 5 cm during prelabor, which she had just discovered at her doctor's visit the morning of May 15. By 8:30 that evening, she was feeling some cramping. At 11:00 pm the contractions had been 5 minutes apart for an hour, but she could talk through them and they were short. At that point we decided it was time for me (her doula) to join in the fun.
Though her contractions were still short (30 seconds), by 12:15 am they were coming about every 2 minutes. She called her doctor and he said come on in! The nurses were SHOCKED to discover that Linda was at 9 centimeters when we arrived. We got settled in a room around 1:15 am. Linda moved through transition quickly, though with great effort and concentration. By 2:15 it was time to push, and by 3:20, Staige was here! Two hours later we were quite surprised to learn that he weighed in at 9 pounds, 6 ounces. Linda prepared for childbirth using HynoBirthing--a method that relies on relaxation techniques and works to help remove fear from the process of birthing as much as possible. After witnessing Linda's birth, and reading many other HypnoBirthing stories, I can confidently recommend this method of childbirth preparation! |
