We had a baby (finally) on May 10th. I was put on bed rest a week before my due date because of my blood pressure and scheduled for an induction on Monday night the 9th. They were going to start with the heart pill they put behind your cervix but when I got there I had already started contractions on my own (I just didn't know it). I had had a pre-labor massage with Kendra earlier that same day and I think she really got things moving for me. After a few hours of the nurse purposefully ignoring me, trying to let my body get into a good contraction pattern before they started any type of induction method, I did start to progress. So she called Nancy (the midwife) and they decided to only do cervidil to start and see what happens after that. Well that's all it took, no pitocin! My birth plan had to change a bit but over all I got the majority of what I wanted. The cervidil was inserted at 11 p.m.-ish and I went to sleep and woke up at 3:30 a.m. with my first painful contraction and we had our little girl, Payton Kinley, at 9:40 a.m. the same morning. Only had to push for 45 minutes and I did it WITHOUT an epidural!!! Hardest thing I've had to do in my life but I did it. She did have a bowel movement in utero and she didn't like the pushing process but we finally made it and the neonatal nurse suctioned her lungs and she was fine. I did have to have an episiotomy because apparently I started to tear at the top and then I tore a bit more after the cut, but we got her out healthy and that's what counts. She weighed 7lb 8oz and 20 1/4 inches. I have never seen such a perfectly round head in my life (thought it might have made the process a bit easier if it was cone shaped just a bit. ha ha). We both really struggled the first 2 days breastfeeding. She was not organized in what she was supposed to do and my nipples became extremely sore after the first 2 feedings. She got the hang of it and my poor poor nipples are starting to heal. Still have to use the nipple shield but I think we can shed it soon. I will miss the prenatal yoga class. Give everyone my best and hope to see ya soon! |
