| Newborn babies come out hungry and ready to nurse! Breast milk comes naturally, but breastfeeding is a learned skill that takes patience and persistence in the early weeks. This class will cover everything you need to know ahead of time to help ease the transition for you and your baby, including recognizing baby's early hunger cues, proper positioning and correct latch on, how long and how often to nurse, and how to avoid and solve common breastfeeding concerns. Our small class sizes mean information is tailored to your needs. Intended for pregnant women; your support person is welcome to attend with you. 2-hour workshop, $28 per mama/couple; or $25 with a Childbirth Series package. Instructor: Elizabeth Stapleton, RN.
We recommend you complete your breastfeeding classes before 36-37 weeks, so please plan ahead! Pre-registration is required for this class; please contact Anne. We keep our class sizes small for more individualized attention. See Class Calendar for dates.

| Breastfeeding your baby around your work schedule is an art form--but it CAN be done! In this class we will specifically address the needs of working moms and answer your questions about how to make it work. Learn how to express and store breast milk, how to use your pump and the differences among pumps, when to begin pumping and when/how to introduce the bottle, how to collect, store, and serve breast milk, and how to maintain your milk supply. This class is for nursing moms (bring your baby); OR for pregnant women who have taken a basic breastfeeding class (or have nursed a baby before). Please bring your pump (if you have one). 1.5-hour workshop, $25; or $20 with a Childbirth Series package. Instructor: Elizabeth Stapleton, RN. This class is not just for working moms, but for all moms who will be spending time away from baby for any reason while breastfeeding. Pre-registration is required for this class; please contact us. We keep our class sizes small for more individualized attention. See Class Calendar for dates. |

| Private Breastfeeding Consultations | |||||
| If you are a typical mom giving birth today, you are likely to receive one to two days of breastfeeding help in the hospital (which may or may not come from a qualified lactation specialist), and then you're on your own. As you might imagine, this approach is not proving to be particularly successful. First time moms need more help in the days and weeks that follow, as you and your baby figure things out. And because every baby is a unique individual, even experienced nursing moms may require additional support with a new baby who is different from the first.
The first few weeks of breastfeeding can be very trying times--but rest assured that with the proper support you can do it. Please don't be a martyr! Oftentimes a simple suggestion is all it takes to make your life MUCH easier. Most moms need extra support during this early period of adjustment (it will get better!); other moms may find they need help later on, when going back to work or dealing with other issues that may arise. Private Breastfeeding Consultations are offered through our partners at Mother Nurture, with their Certified Lactation Counselors Kristi Rhode and Cerise Bouchard. And because it's us, you can trust that the advice you receive is based on current research and identified best practices, to support you in your decision to breastfeed your baby. If you have ANY questions or concerns, if it is painful to nurse your baby, if you are "hooked" on nipple shields, if baby is gaining weight slowly, please don't spend another day worrying or wondering. We can address all the common concerns, check your baby's latch, and provide simple, helpful adjustments to immediately relieve your discomfort and promote a successful breastfeeding relationship. We can help you identify the more serious medical concerns, and refer you on to a Lactation Consultant when appropriate. PLEASE don't wait until you feel like giving up to ask for help! Our consultations are infinitely less expensive than the cost of formula-feeding your baby. Invest in your breastfeeding relationship now, and your child will be rewarded with improved health and vitality for a lifetime. Our Counselors The Certified Lactation Counselors at Mother Nurture are experts at diagnosing and solving common breastfeeding concerns. They will listen to you, watch you and your baby, and provide solutions in a gentle and caring way to facilitate a successful breastfeeding relationship for both you and your baby. Kristi Rhode, CLC Cerise Bouchard, CLC Consultation Rates Initial Consultation: 60 minutes, $60 In order to get the most from your session, please try to schedule so that your baby is ready to nurse during your appointment time (without being overly hungry and frustrated!). We say this knowing full well that it is difficult to plan with a newborn. Just do your best.
