PRENATAL YOGA

Feel Better.
Prenatal Yoga helps to align the body to carry your baby most comfortably, preventing or relieving many common discomforts of pregnancy including backache, water retention, fatigue, and sciatic pain. Yoga also helps to stabilize the emotions, relieve stress, and integrate changes in the body. You will leave class feeling better than when you came in.

Be Stronger.
Prenatal Yoga uses stretching and strength-building poses to tone muscles without straining them, improve flexibility, and promote healthy blood flow, keeping your body active and strong as it changes to carry your growing baby. Healthy muscles stretch more easily, and are less likely to ache, tear, or cause injury. This includes birthing muscles. Need I say more?

Prepare for Birth.
Yoga builds strength and confidence in the body and stimulates the relaxation response, releasing fear, tension, and stress that can be a barrier in childbirth. Through yoga practice we develop body and breath awareness, focus, and concentration, learning to relax quickly and completely and practicing softening around the sensations of opening up. These are the skills that will help you most as you move through your labor.

Class Details: At Baby Moon, Prenatal Yoga is our specialty. Our classes are beneficial to women at all stages of pregnancy and any fitness level. Emphasis is on safety and no experience is necessary. You may start whenever you feel ready. Drop-ins welcome and class packages are available. No advance registration is needed. A yoga mat is recommended for class and may be purchased at Baby Moon ($20). As with any exercise program, please consult with your doctor or midwife before beginning.

MAMA & BABY YOGA
Come as you are.
Everything changes after the birth of your baby. The sleepless nights, the colic, the bodily fluids (oh my, the bodily fluids!), and the love like you never knew you could feel. Every moment revolves around this tiny person, and the process of adapting and adjusting to your new routine is enormous.

With all the focus on the baby, it's easy to forget about your own well-being. Taking a shower alone is now the highlight of the week. But your body has undergone massive changes, and your hormones continue to fluctuate. It's important to take care of yourself during this time, so you will have an increased ability to nurture your baby.

Be patient during the 4th trimester, as you and your baby get to know each other and figure out your new life together. Before you know it, you'll be one of those moms you've seen around town, shopping with clean hair.

In Mama & Baby Yoga we will focus on gentle stretching and strengthening exercises to restore the muscles used during pregnancy and childbirth. We will also work with some baby yoga and infant massage techniques designed to improve digestion and circulation and stimulate neuromuscular development. In Mama & Baby Yoga, as in life, some days are better than others. But if nothing else, this class gives you an opportunity to get out of the house with your baby and hang out with other women who know just how you feel. Really.

Class Details: You may begin Mama & Baby Yoga as soon as you feel ready for gentle exercise, though a common guideline is around 4-6 weeks after a vaginal birth, 6 weeks after a cesarean birth. Babies are welcome until their mobility interferes with your enjoyment of the class. (Usually once they are crawling circles around you.)

This is a very laid back class. Babies will laugh, cry, poop, eat, scream, and smile in baby yoga class. These are all normal baby activities. We will attend to our babies as needed, and do yoga when we can. It's all good!

We will spend the first few minutes of class getting babies settled and checking in with each other. A yoga mat is recommended for class and may be purchased at Baby Moon ($20). Please bring a receiving blanket and comfort items for your baby (toy, pacifier or boob, etc.).

MAMAS & MOVERS
Exploring movement.
Our next stage yoga class for mamas and babies on-the-move! Baby enjoys visiting and playing with other baby friends, while observing our yoga example. Mama enjoys some gentle yoga in our relaxed atmosphere where anything goes. Open to active crawlers through early walkers, those who are brand new to yoga as well as graduates of our Mama & Baby class. This is a fun, laid back class for exploration and community.
Class Details: You may begin Mamas & Movers Yoga any time, once your baby is actively crawling and up until active walking. We will enjoy some gentle yoga exercise as we attend to baby's needs.

Please bring a toy or two to share. We will spend the first few minutes of class getting babies settled and checking in with each other. This class does not run in sessions so you may begin any time and use up your class package at your convenience (within one year of purchase). Drop-ins also welcome. STORY TIME YOGA
Engaging the imagination.
Gather 'round for our imaginative story time and yoga play! We'll read a favorite book each week and engage our toddlers' creativity, self-expression, and energy. Children will explore these stories with their bodies and do what toddlers do best--move!

Class Details: You may join us for Story Time Yoga any time, once your toddler is actively walking and up until age 3. Class is 45 minutes long. Drop-ins welcome, $12. Class packages also available. This class does not run in sessions so you may begin any time and use up your class package at your convenience (within one year of purchase).

KIDS YOGA
Growing into the body.
Swim in the ocean, play in the jungle, fly like a bird -- we approach Kids Yoga with the energy and playfulness of...KIDS! These active classes help your child to build body awareness and form healthy lifestyle habits from the youngest ages. We'll develop strength, flexibility, balance, and focus through this imaginative, yoga-based play.Research shows that kids improve in all areas (including school performance) when this type of regular exercise is integrated into their daily lives.

Yoga helps kids to get connected with their bodies in a non-competitive environment, and teaches kids new ways to relax and calm themselves. Your little yogi or yogini will have fun, stretch their imagination, play, and relax during this weekly respite from a busy world. Inspired by yoga, but made for kids.

Weekend Workshops and Weekday Series classes are being offered now!

Preschoolers 3-4 years: This class is loaded with inspiring music and  yoga 'play'.  Animal sounds will fill the room in this fun, less structured environment. Designed as an introduction to the class experience, we will focus on social interactions in addition to gross motor skills. Classes run in sessions and are 45 minutes long. Workshops, $12. 6 week sessions, $55. Class is limited to 10 participants.

Kids 5-7 years: Here, yoga is coupled with an enthusiasm for learning.  A thematic approach uses storytelling, music, and imagination to focus our senses and bring class to life. Classes run in sessions and are 45 minutes long. Workshops, $12. 6 week sessions, $55. Class is limited to 10 participants.

Kids 8-10 years: Focusing on our growing bodies, this class provides greater emphasis on alignment and self-awareness.  Physical poses, breathing exercises, and team building skills combine to promote healthy choices on and off the mat. Classes run in sessions and are 45 minutes long. Workshops, $12. 6 week sessions, $55. Class is limited to 10 participants.

MOM'S NIGHT OUT YOGA
Taking time for ourselves.
As mothers our time is already spoken for. But our energy level is finite, and our bodies can only go on adrenaline for so long. Can we be the mothers we want to be when we consistently neglect our own needs? What are our children learning by watching us?

When we take time out for self-care, we affect the experience of the whole family. A centered, mindful, self-confident mother brings patience and compassion to the job of parenting. Our children learn to value themselves by watching us model this behavior. We are worth taking care of.

This is the class for all of our busy Baby Moon moms who just can't commit to a weekly yoga class. Take a Friday night out once a month to reconnect with your Baby Moon girlfriends, and enjoy a yoga class! We will focus on gentle yoga, appropriate for everyone. It is a step up from the Restorative Workshop, but with an emphasis on releasing stress and tension, opening up the body, and working with the breath. We encourage you to make a night of it while Dad puts the kiddies to bed--if you can swing it, you might even step out afterwards with friends for coffee, juice, or heck, maybe even a margarita! Laughter is good medicine.

Please wait until 6 weeks postpartum to begin, and keep coming until the kids are in college and you have time for weekly classes again. $14 drop-in. To help you make this commitment to yourself we will also offer a special class package--$72 for 6 classes (to be used within one year).

RESTORATIVE YOGA WORKSHOP FOR MOMS

The best parenting advice we've heard is on the airplane: "Secure your own oxygen mask first, then assist your child." We're no good to our children when we are stressed out, burned out, and depleted. Time gets away from us and the next thing we know, our shoulders are permanently up around our ears and you could bounce a quarter off our hamstrings (this is not a good thing). How are we responded to our children and the world around us, when we feel this way on the inside? Our Restorative Yoga Workshop is the answer to your yoga-mergency!!

Restorative Yoga creates a profound release by supporting the body fully with blankets and bolsters in gentle, opening postures. We'll enjoy two full hours in a balanced sequence of deeply relaxing postures, guided meditations, and healing music. Gentle and suitable for those brand new to yoga, as well as more experienced students. Not for pregnancy. Like a mini-vacation in the space of one afternoon, this workshop brings many benefits to body and soul in a short amount of time.

I was not prepared for the sitting around. As the new mother of an infant, I was shocked! Sitting on the couch and nursing. Lying on the bed and nursing. Sitting in the car, in between errands, nursing. Is it getting to you?

As the mother of a mover, there's much less sitting. Now I look back fondly on the couch time, just a little would go a long way these days. But while the chasing and redirecting is more active, it takes a lot of energy, and leaves me feeling a bit depleted.

In our Stroller class we will get out and move our bodies in a healthy, balanced way, with the goal of INCREASING our energy level at every stage, to make the couch time more enjoyable, the chasing time less taxing. We'll walk, build strength, improve our cardiovascular fitness (slowly but surely), and enjoy the company of other moms while baby rides along. Breathe new life into that mama body.

When the weather is nice, we will meet in Jacobson park to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine--nature's best medicine for you and for baby.

Class Details: Open to mamas with babies of stroller age. Appropriate for all fitness levels. Please wait until 6 weeks after a non-complicated vaginal birth to begin, 8 weeks after a cesarean birth. This class runs in 6 week sessions, $55.
